| A wind generator or wind turbine is a machine for converting the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator. Wind generators are used to generate electricity from the kinetic power of the wind. Historical they were more frequently used as a mechanical device to turn machinery. There are two main kinds of wind generators, those with a vertical axis, and those with a horizontal axis. Wind turbines can be used to generate large amounts of electricity in wind farms both onshore and offshore. |

| Electricity produced by wind generators can be used directly, as in water pumping applications, or it can be stored in batteries for household usage. Wind generators can be used alone, or they may be used as part of a hybrid system, in which their output is combined with that of solar PV arrays and hydro generators and/or a fossil fuel generator. |

•Air X |
Improved energy capture in low winds. The latest evolution in small wind turbines, the AIR-X Marine uses a microprocessor to control the RPM and to provide pulse-width modulating (PWM) control for optimal battery charging. The result is a much quieter, more efficient, and a better battery charging routine. AIR-X electronics are programmed to charge the battery at different charging rates, from 'bulk' charging (high amps), 'taper' charging (moderate amps, high voltage) to 'float' charge (low amps, moderate voltage). AIR-X's programmed charged control system is also excellent for newer boat power systems using more advanced batteries which require more sensitive charge management. Whisper 100 provides dependable energy for remote homes, telecommunication sites and rural applications in moderate to extreme environments. The versatile Whisper 200 powers applications from remote homes to water pumping. The Whisper 500 can produce enough energy to power an entire home. Assuming a 12 mph (5.4 m/s) wind, a Whisper 500 will produce as much as 500 kWh per month.
